New elementary research TEKS Feeling Like This? Want to feel like this? Big6

What is Big 6? What are the 6 stages? The Big6 is a process model of how people of all ages solve an information problem. (Jansen 2009) This process encompasses six stages. Task Definition: Information Seeking Strategies: Location & Access: Use of Information: Synthesis: Evaluation:

Huh…Show me! Task Definition: What does that look like? What do we need to do? Define the problem Identify the information needed

Show me more… Information Seeking Strategies What does that look like? What can we use to find what we need? Determine all possible sources Select the best sources

More more… Location & Access What does that look like? Where can we find what we need? Locate sources Find information within sources

Ohhh…I’m getting it Use of information What does that look like? What information can we use? Engage (e.g., read, hear, view, touch) Extract needed information

There is more! Synthesis What does this look like? How can we show what we learned? Organize Information Present the result

Last but not least Evaluation What does it look like? How will we know if we did well? Judge the result (effectiveness) Judge the process (efficiency)
