VALUES MEANING Values are learnt from the society and hence are to acceptable to the society as preferred’ modes of conduct’ or end states. Values are stable and long lasting beliefs about what is important in a variety of situations. UNIT II O & B3

According to milton Rokeach, “values are global beliefs that guide actions and judgments across a variety of situations”. UNIT II O & B4

CHARACTERISTICS OF VALUES Some people value practically while others value aesthetics Values influence our priority, preferences and our actions Value systems represent prioritizing of individual values in relation to their relative importance We all have set of values that form a value system The values of an individual influence his attitudes and also his behaviour UNIT II O & B5

TYPES OF VALUE  Theoretical value place high importance on the discovery of truth through a critical and rational approach  Economic value it emphasizes the useful and practical  Aesthetic value it places the highest value an form and harmony  Social value the highest value is given to the love of people UNIT II O & B6

 Political value it places emphasizes on acquisition of power and influences  Religious value it concerned with the unity of experience and understanding of the cosmos as a whole UNIT II O & B7

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN VALUES AND ATTITUDES 1. Both are learned and acquired from the same sources- people and objects 2. Both are resistant to change 3. Both are influence each other and are interchangeably 4. Both affect the behaviour of the people UNIT II O & B8
