9/29/ E Multiplying Decimals by Decimals

To multiply decimals by decimals 1. place the number with the most digits on top 2.“lasso” the decimals until the end 3.multiply as usual 4. plug in to the final product.

1)4.2 × 6.7 2) 3.6 × ) ×

Check for reasonableness with estimation!

“Your Turn!” 1)A certain car can travel miles with one gallon of gasoline. The gasoline tank can hold 11.5 gallons. How many miles can this car travel on a full tank of gas? 2)A nutrition label indicates that one serving of apple crisp oatmeal has 2.5 grams of fat. How many grams of fat are there in 3.75 servings? 3)4.8 × 3.2 4) 5.81 × miles g

“Card Cowboy Chaos” Round 1- Pick 2 cards. Create a whole number & decimal. Pick 2 again to create another whole number & decimal. Multiply and record your answer. Round 2- Pick 3 cards. Create a double digit and decimal. Then pick 2 cards to create a decimal that is in hundredths place. Round 3- Pick 2 cards. Create a decimal that is in the hundredths place. Then pick 1 card to create a decimal in the tenths place. Partner- check your opponents work! The partner with the largest product at the end of activity wins match.

Let’s Go Shopping! Pick an item you would love to have. Research the cost of that item. Then figure out how much it would cost to buy with a 7% sales tax (7% = 0.07)  That’s NJ state tax! With a 12% sales tax (0.12) With a 14.5% sales tax (0.145)
