ESPAÑOL 1 & 2 Con Sr. Capell

SR. CAPELL

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Grew up in Northern California. Learned Spanish in The Dominican Republic (two years). Received a Bachelors degree in Spanish Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho. Currently in sixth year of teaching Spanish. Taught one year in Idaho teaching levels 6 th, 7 th, 8 th, and Spanish 1 to High School students. Currently in fifth year at Lunsford. Spent the first three years in the county teaching SAMS at middle schools all around the county (Lunsford all three years). Last year made the transition to Spanish 1 and 2.

COURSE DESCRIPTION In Spanish, the students develop their ability to communicate about a variety of topics. Students develop the ability to listen to, speak, read, write in Spanish.

GRADING, & HOMEWORK We will have Formatives and Summatives. Formatives are taken in class in preparation for the summative. Formatives help the students and myself know where they need to focus their efforts. Formatives are not for a grade. Summatives consist of Tests, Quarterly Projects, One to the World Projects, and County CPAs and Benchmarks. CPAs occur quarterly, and benchmarks will take place at the end of each semester. Homework is not graded. However, it is required. Homework gives the students the opportunity to practice what they are learning in class. It is important that student complete homework to develop their understanding of the material covered in class.

RETAKE POLICY Our goal is for students to master the material. Therefore we offer opportunities for students to relearn material if needed. Opportunities for retakes are available for all students. Mandatory Retakes occur when a student scores less than a 70%. Before a retake can take place the student must show that they understand the material. They must complete a retake checklist. The retake checklist states that the students must complete all missing homework, warm-ups, study guides, in addition to any other work required by the teacher, as well as attend a reteach session. Optional Retakes are earned. Students must qualify for option retakes. Students must turn in homeworks, warm-ups on time, and study guides on time. The student must then complete a retake checklist, by showing me all their completed homeworks, warm-ups and study guides. As well as, completing any additional requirements. Students will have two weeks from the date they receive their score to complete a retake.
