Verde Ventures Overview $6 million and growing. Capitalized as debt by the IFC/GEF, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Starbucks. Investment Goals: Biodiversity conservation, conservation-oriented job-creation and modest financial returns. Invest in CI’s global priority areas.

Verde Ventures Overview Use of Funds: Infrastructure, working capital, trade finance etc. Instruments: Primarily Debt Investment Size: $100,000 to $500,000 Sectors: Agro-forestry (66%), Non-Timber Forest Products (25%), Eco-tourism (9%). Term: 3-5 years.

Verde Ventures Results 100% on-time repayment ($1.4 million) $2.6 million invested. Supporting enterprises improving land use in 580,000 hectares. Supporting enterprises employing over 8,000 local people. Leveraged co-financing of $1.65 million in external funding.

Eco-Tourism Ecotourism project in Belize restoring and patrolling 5,000 hectares. 150 local staff mostly former loggers/hunters. Belize Lodge and Excursions Rain Forest Expeditions Community-owned lodge near Puerto Maldonado protecting 13,000 hectares and employing 40 local people.
