Robotics Engineering Science vs Engineering What’s the difference? Science = Understand Things Engineering = Build Things

Definition Webster’s Dictionary defines engineering as “the practical application of science and mathematics” as in the design and construction of machines, vehicles, structures, roads and systems.

Engineering Process What is a process? A procedure: a particular course of action intended to achieve a result; A designed sequence of operations or events, possibly taking up time, space, expertise or other resource, which produces some outcome.

Scientific Method Identify a Problem, Need or Opportunity Do ResearchPlanPrototypeTestCommercialize Ask a QuestionDo ResearchForm Hypothesis Experiment Analyze Data Report Results Engineering Process Vs

Identify a Problem, Need or Opportunity Do ResearchPlanPrototypeTestCommercialize Engineering Process Deliverables Restate Requirements  in your own words Research Report  NXT & non-NXT sources Design Concept  what do you intend to build Project Plan  schedule  who is doing what, by when  what resources are needed Design Review  design concept  hardware vs software  hardware review  software review  flow chart overview  platform specific details

Challenge: Using the materials provided, three sheets of 8.5 by 11 paper, 18 inches of tape, build the tallest free standing tower possible.
