Uses of the band saw The band saw is used to make straight or curved cuts Wide blades are for straight cuts Narrow blades or for curved cuts

Tuning up the band saw Tensioning the blade- tighten the blade so that when you pluck it like a guitar it has a clear tone and not a dull thud. Next you should check the blade for deflection. Raise the guide all the way up and push sideways on the blade and make sure its not deflecting much. Tracking the blade-When the blade is tracking correctly it is running on the middle of the wheels. There is a knob above the upper wheel housing that controls this. Just spin the blade by hand and adjust the knob until the blade runs on the middle of the wheels.

Band Saw tune up continued… Square the blade and the table- Loosen the knobs that lock the table in place. Hold a small square on the table with its blade against the saw blade and then just square the table to the blade and lock it in place Setting the guides- move the guard up about halfway between the table and the top of the case and adjust it evenly with the guards as well.
