My class consists of 25 9 th graders - 11 girls and14 boys. Of the students, 12 are white, 8 are African American, and 5 are Hispanic. Additionally, 3 students have been diagnosed with ADHD. The majority of the class have visual and auditory learning styles. This will require instruction that incorporates plenty of verbal instruction and the opportunity for students to create their own visual in addition to notes displayed on the board.
My students will simplify polynomial equations by practicing problems from worksheets and through online games with 85 percent accuracy by the end of the unit. Additionally, students will factor and solve fro the variable x by practicing problems from a worksheet and comparing their answers to the graphed representation of the function on a calculator with 85 percent accuracy. Students will also solve systems of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination by practicing problems on worksheets and through a group assignment involving real-world application with 85 percent accuracy by the end of the unit.
