The main character in the book is Theo. Theo is short for Theodore. Theo is a 12- year old boy that has a sister named Janet and a loving mom named Rosemary. Theo has no dad right now because his dad went to fight in the Vietnam war. Theo’s grandma Jeebee, comes to help their family a lot since Vince their dad is gone. Janet (Theo’s older sister), is a 14-year old,funny, lazy, silly, sister. Even though she might be a little crabby she still loves Theo as a little brother. Rosemary (Theo’s mom), feels kind of lonely and abandon because Vince (Theo’s dad) went away to fight in the Vietnam war. But she still has hope that he will come home soon. Jeebee is Theo’s grandma on Vince’s side of the family. Since Vince went to fight in the war, Jeebee comes to Theo’s house to help out his family, by cooking the meals. Kenny is Theo’s best friend in the world. They do about everything together. Sometimes Theo thinks that Kenny is spoiled because he has a perfect dad . Vince is Theo’s dad who went to fight in the Vietnam war to work in a chopper, as a mechanic. Although he misses his family very much, he is still hiding a huge secret from them. Mr. Meyer is Theo and Kenny’s science teacher. In the story Mr. Meyer assigned his class to answer a question for a project. The question was … What is the most important thing on earth? T he story begins when Mr. Meyer assigned his class to a project. The project is to answer a specific question. The question was, What is the most important thing on earth? Theo and Kenny, of course want to do the project together. Later, Theo doesn’t want to do the project together with Kenny. So he decided to do it alone. Jeebee says that every Saturday she goes to the hair salon. Janet and Theo know that Jeebee always says that she is going to the hair salon on every Saturday. So, they knew that something was up. They found out that Jeebee did not go to the hair salon every Saturday. They found out that she helped out at a youth center. Later on in the story, they found out that Vince has been in the U.S.A for awhile but was afraid to come home. Theo and Janet also found out that he helped out at the same youth center as Jeebee in Washington D.C.. So, Jeebee already knew he was in the U.S.A.. Soon Vince decided to come home and stay with his real family for as long as he lives. Theo also, got his answer for his project. Lily’s Opinion About The Book -I liked the story because it was talking about two very different stories. One of the stories was about Theo trying to find his dad. The other one was about Theo trying to figure out what he was going to do for his project. -What I didn’t like about the story, was that it was very sad how the author described how Theo’s family was without Vince. I felt really emotional for Theo because he is the only boy in his family and he misses his dad the most. -I think that Greetings From Planet Earth is an amazing book to read. Well, if you like emotional books you should try to read it!!!! I would give it a 9 out of 10 on a scale.
