Base Bath Use Cleaning glassware in isopropanol saturated with KOH

Basic Use Keep in secondary containment tray that is not adjacent to acid cleaning baths. Label both the lid and bucket. Rinse glassware to remove residues. Wear arm-length neoprene gloves, safety goggles, a lab coat, and shoes that cover the top of the foot. Add and remove glassware carefully to prevent splashes. When finished, rinse the gloves and water faucet, and replace the lid. Dispose of base bath if it is biphasic or discolored (deep orange). Periodically replace the bucket as it can become weaken by the basic solution. 2

Hazards and Controls 3 HazardControl Skin Contact Always wear PPE (elbow length gloves) Move slowly and carefully to avoid splashing. Wash gloves and area around bath after use. Eye Contact Always wear Splash proof goggles when working with a cleaning bath. Chemical Reactions Rinse glassware with solvent to remove chemical residues. Rinse with water after acetone. Slip and FallWipe up any spills on the floor when finished.
