Extremely serious amnesia. all memories cannot remember The person will shut down all memories, and start their life over. They cannot remember who they are.

A person divides themselves into multiple personalities. Usually caused by trauma & feelings of guilt & fear Fred SallyBrutus may or may not know ** The personalities may or may not know the other exists The stronger personality usually destroys the weaker!!

Mental disorders that show exaggerations in emotions. Dysthymic disorder “Dysthymic disorder”- 15% of all people deal with this at some point. -No energy, unhappy, inactive, no humor, low self-esteem

“Mad Excitement” Restless, Can’t concentrate, speak fast Rapid change between up and down also known as “manic-depressive”. Chemical in brain that controls “mood” levels. Med’s can help.

Treatment of patients using discussions to release unconscious thoughts. The goal is to release anxiety & Guilt Usually involves 100’s of hours over a period of years!! Patient responds by saying whatever word comes to mind The patient transfers feelings toward the therapist or a symbolic replacement.

Subjects “project” their experiences & feelings onto a stimuli. Symmetrical inkblots are shown quickly– No right or wrong answers. Which part of inkblot was mentioned or used. Nature of the object/activity described. Which aspect of inkblot prompted the response? (color, shape, shading) Subject is reminded of answer, & asked to elaborate.

The “client” has the power to heal themselves with some assistance. The therapist & “client” are partners in therapy.

Therapy that uses learning to alter “abnormal” behaviors. Doesn’t worry about the cause!!! Therapist increases patient anxiety and counters it with relaxation devices. Patient gains rewards for good behavior & punishments for continued abnormal behavior These patients “do” stuff, rather than “talk” about it

Therapy in which more than one person is treated at same time
