Structure of management The foundation of an organization is its structure. An organization’s structure can show how it operates and also how the company divides responsibilities and tasks. Like any physical structure, every part of the structure works together to keep the structure strong. There are multiple types of organizational structure, but today we will be highlighting four of the most common.  Flat Organizational Structure  Functional Organizational Structure  Product Organizational Structure  Geographical Organizational Structure The foundation of an organization is its structure. Flat Organization Commonly seen in smaller companies, Flat organization has only a few levels of management. This means that besides the CEO or President of the company, everyone else is on the same management level. This structure allows for quick decision making because of the direct link to the top of the hierarchy. Can you think of any examples of this organization? Geographical Organization Think about geography. Some companies are not just located in one place, but all over a country or even the world! In this case, companies are organized by where they are located. This structure is very tall, meaning there are multiple levels of management. In the example below you can see that there is a CEO, but there is also a VP of each area that answer to the CEO. Below each VP there are moreemployees as well. Safety How important is safety? Safety is a commitment of most companies because it effects the success of their products. Companies and organizations get serious about safety in many ways. They have special policies, extra testing, and may have an employee who exclusively monitors safety! How important is safety? Quality Control What is Quality Control? Organizations or companies don’t just make a product and sell it. Any product can sometimes go through years of preparation and testing before shared with consumers. Product quality isn’t all…it’s a similar process with employees at a company as well. While working for a company you are expected to be working hard and doing your job well. Things called evaluations will be done by your manager to see if there are things you can improve upon as an employee. Does this remind you of anything you experience in life now?
