Questions What is the scroll saw designed to do? Its meant to cut sharp curves on both outside and inside edges, as well as interior sections of a work piece. 2. The scroll saw moves in an up and down motion and cuts very similar to two types of saws. Which two? The coping saw and compass saw. 3.How is the size of a scroll saw determined? The distance between the blade and the over arm determines the size. 4.What are the three types of blades available? Metal cutting, Spiral, and standard plain-end general purpose. 5.Which chuck controls the tension for the scroll saw? The upper chuck.

Questions What part of the scroll saw is used to apply light pressure to the work piece? The hold down-foot 7. Name the six common cuts the scroll saw can make. Straight cuts, outside curves, inside curves, bevel curves, marquetry, and overlay cuts. 8. How many teeth per inch are required for cutting extremely thin wood? 20 teeth per inch 9. If the stock is cut too fast or turned to sharply what will happen to the blade? The blade will break. 10. A continuous line should not always mean a continuous cut. T/F That is true.

Questions What is the first thing you should do before cutting internal curves? You should drill a relief hole. 12.An internal relief cut should always be cut on the waste stock of the material. T/F This statement is True. 13. At what degree should the table be set for cutting inlays? The table should be set at 1 or 2 degrees for inlay cuts.

Safety rules for your protection

Safety Rules (scroll saw) Always wear eye protection. Be sure to install the blade in the vertical position with the teeth pointing down. Protection from sawdust getting in your eye.

Safety Rules (scroll saw) Check the belt guard to see that it is closed and tight. Adjust the hold down foot to the thickness of the stock being cut. Do not allow your fingers to get any closer than two(2) inches from the blade when cutting. Keep your fingers to the side of the blade, never in front. Cut round stock by holding it in a V-block fixture. Stop the scroll saw before you make any adjustments.
