Introduction Involve movement of solid, liquid or gas flow relative to rate of time Mainly in manufacturing and process industries

Solid-Flow Solid carried by conveyor belt system Describe by the mass/weight per unit time Flow rate, Q = WR/L Flow (kg/min) Weight of material on section of length L (kg) Conveyor speed (m/min) Length of weighing platform (m)

Example A coal conveyor system moves at 100m/min. A weighing platform is 5m in length, and a particular weighing (load cell) shows that 75kg of coal are on the platform. Find the delivery in kg/min.

Liquid-Flow Determine by the pressure that is forcing the liquid through a pipe. Introduce restriction in the pipe to measure the pressure drop across the restriction Velocity of the fluid through the restriction increases, when the pressure in the restriction decreases

Obstruction type Flow meter 1) Rotameter 2) Moving vane flow meter 3) Turbine flow meter

Magnetic Flow meter Based on potential voltage established, when charge particles move across a magnetic field By allowing liquid (conductor) to flow through magnetic field and measuring the transverse potential produced (electrical signal)
