Utah’s Population AND THE AFFECTS OF HAZARDS IN THE POPULATED AREAS

Where do we live? Where are the most populated areas? Weber County Davis County Salt Lake County Utah County Make sure you write down and know the 4 most populated areas

Why? Write down and summarize the reasons Climate is more favorable: More- ◦Plants ◦Precipitation ◦Mountains ◦Agriculture

Water Sources Streams and water near the mountains provided for irrigation for early farmers and for people’s needs today.

JOBS There more jobs due to early settlement, and people have continued to migrate here. Utah’s only CBDs lie in these areas. Utah’s largest employers

Transportation: I-15 and 215 make travel and connections easier in these counties Traxx Frontrunner Salt Lake International Airport

Location Near the capital city makes access to government and jobs easier.

Heritage Utah’s first pioneers settled these counties the earliest. As population grew people chose to stay near families.

Mountain and Canyon Recreation Hiking Skiing Waterskiing Reservoirs

With larger population, comes greater risk that natural hazards will become disasters. Utah’s most populated counties are prone to: ◦Earthquakes ◦Floods ◦Violent Winds ◦Water Shortage ◦Brush Fires ◦Lake-effect Snow

The Wasatch fault is located here

Spring runoff and heavy rainfall causes floods….

Violent east winds…

Water shortages

Brush fires

Lake-effect snow
