The Treaty of Versailles Analytical Paragraph

Step 1 (Choosing your thesis)  The first thing you need to do is pick out a thesis.  The Treaty of Versailles was unsuccessful because it failed to… establish and foster peace ensure justice for all establish and maintain economic stability establish and maintain political stability Hint: you can earn a 100% on this assignment with any of the above

Step 2 (Choosing your evidence)  Pick three articles from the section of the Treaty of Versailles in your course package.  There is NO outside research needed for this paragraph  I repeat, there is no outside research needed for this paragraph  This means you can get a 100% without researching anything  Yes, really

Step 2 (Part 2)  Your three articles need to come from three categories (one from each).  Military  Economic  Territorial  That is why we had y’all sort them out earlier (there is a method to the madness).

Step 3 (Writing your leads)  The purpose of a lead is to let the reader know where the next part of the paragraph is going.  Briefly mention WHAT your evidence is about – tell me if it is about the economy, the territorial losses, or the military restrictions.  The leads are about introducing the evidence – the link to thesis comes later.

Quotation (This is where your article goes) Thesis Sentence Lead (is the next quotation about militarism, territorialism, or economics ? This is where you link the article you have chosen to the thesis using magical words and because (three times)

Analysis (the hard part?)  Here is the deal…  If you use three “magical” words per analysis, you should do well  The magical words need to be combined with a because in order to show HOW or WHY they prove that your thesis is correct

Quotation (This is where your article goes) Thesis Sentence Lead (is the next quotation about militarism, territorialism, or economics ? This is where you link the article you have chosen to the thesis using magical words and because (three times) Lead (is the next quotation about militarism, territorialism, or economics ? Quotation (This is where your article goes) This is where you link the article you have chosen to the thesis using magical words and because (three times)

Conclusion (the easy part of the project)  You need to restate your thesis  When I say re-state, I mean re-state (same idea in different words)  There is no trick to it, just do it  Don’t forget to use embedded citation  Don’t forget to hand in a Works Cited on a separate page  Don’t forget to read the rubric to double check what your teacher is looking for (so you can get the mark you want)
