Application and Selection Process

 Recognizes model students  academic excellence with other aspects of their lives.  May or may not have already received recognition from the campus, local, state, national, or international organizations.  It is the highest honor from SUNY.  Around 270 SUNY wide students receive the award from 64 campuses with an overall average GPA of around 3.8.  UB students Must have a 3.5 GPA to apply

 Students are nominated by faculty and staff ◦ Deadline to nominate was December 23  Students go online to download and complete the nomination form. ◦ Nomination forms due Wednesday, Jan 27 at 12pm (12 noon)  A UB selection committee meets to review the completed applications  The UB selection committee selects up to 15 students to forward onto the SUNY Administration 

 December 7 - Call for nominations from Staff and Faculty  December 9 - Application submissions form on UBLinked open  December 23- Deadline for Staff/Faculty to nominate students  December 16, January 14 & January 25 - Student information sessions  January 27 - Applications Due at 12pm/noon via UBLinked - NO EXCEPTIONS  February 2 - Students selected  February 3 – Students notified if they are selected  End of February - Students are notified by SUNY Central if they have received the award via mail.  April 5 - Awards ceremony in Albany at 2 pm  April 7 - Celebration for Student Excellence, Center for the Arts

 Download the nomination form first and begin filling it in.  Fill out ALL contact information.  Take your time when describing each category.  Think about all your awards/recognitions and it’s impact on yourself and others.  Only list awards/recognitions that you received while a student at UB earning your current degree.

 Consider the impact of each experience (ie: Community Service - once vs. continual)  Limit yourself to 500 words per category  Only list an award/recognition once!  It is OK not to fill in every category.  Edit.

 Is there a GPA cut-off? ◦ Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be considered for this award.  Can I list awards more than once? ◦ No, the award or recognition will only be counted once by the selection committees.  Can I include what I have done at other schools? ◦ No. Both selection committees will focus only on what you have done while a student at UB completing your current degree.

 What if I won the award as an undergraduate or at a community college, am I still eligible to apply again? ◦ Yes, however you can not use any of the awards or recognitions you originally used as an undergraduate or in your community college to win the award previously.

 To find the form, please go to and be sure to login to the site on the top right corner using your UBIT name and password.  If you do not login, you will not see the form.  Under organizations, select “Office of Student Engagement”.  Click on “Forms” on the top menu bar (towards the middle)  Select the “2016 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence”.

 If you opened the online form but didn’t complete or fill in any fields, the system will still think you started the form. To get back to your form follow these steps after logging into UBLinked:  Click on the tab with your name at the top right  Click on "My Involvement"  Click "Submissions" tab in the middle of the option bar at the top of the pay (gray toolbar)  Find the form and click on the “eye” icon of the form title ("2016 SUNY Chancellor's Award")  Click the title of the form and you should be brought back to the form to complete.  For any additional questions, please contact the Office of Student Engagement at

 This award is about recognizing students for their achievements.  If you are not selected to be forwarded or not selected by the SUNY Administration group, you have still been nominated for a very prestigious award.  Congratulations and good luck!
