Responsibilities of the average Sports Agent  Dealing with professional athletes and contracts with sports franchises.  PR / Legal issues with client.  Marketing client for endorsements outside of his or her specific sport.  Managing clients career.

“Show Me The Money” Salary Range of a Sports Agent  According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) The average salary of a Sports Agent / Manager is $97,760 per year.  Usually Sports Agents make about 10% of whatever his or her client makes per year. (Which could be significantly more than $98,000)

TYPICAL CAREER PATHS FOR SPORTS MARKETING Some are lucky enough know client on a personal level and need no experience or even a degree. Most Sports agents usually have a Bachelors degree in Communications (PR) / Sports Management., and Law Degree. Reason for a Law Degree is so Agents can personally handle client’s professional contract.

Additional Information  A good agent get his or her client a multi-year contract in their profession.  A great agent, can do that and find multiple advertising endorsement deals outside of whatever sport the client does for a living.  Most Sports Agents have multiple clients in numerous professional sports.  Majority of Sports Agents have contracts of their own while working for Major Sports Marketing Companies

Ever Evolving o The sports industry continues to evolve every day. Every sport getting more complex and the talent level is increasing every year, so if agents plan on being successful they must find viable talent at a very young age. o Globalizing communication makes an agent’s job very difficult with rumors surrounding clients through out the media all the time o Agents now have to either work with a publicist, or be a publicist for his or her client. In order to upkeep the client’s reputaion.

OVERALL: HIGHLY DIFFICULT, BUT PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY PROS  Very high paying job  Chance to travel the world  Chance to meet / work with world’s best athletes  Working in an industry that arguably survives any economic deficit, and will continue to grow. (N.Y. Yankees / Real Madrid) CONS  Dealing with extremely high levels of stress.  Overtime can be an understatement.  Very “cut throat” business  Dealing with major egos on a daily basis.  Client turnover rate is very high.
