Functional Organizations & IT Accounting: Book keeping, financial statements, taxes, auditing Finance: Analysis tools, investment tracking, project success tracking, etc. Sales & marketing: Customer Tracking, Promotion tracking, order processing. Production & Operations: Manufacturing Execution Systems, Inventory management systems, purchasing software. CRM: Customer tracing, call tracking, sales and refund tracking All these functional units need to share data. Process centric means break down into processes, as we discussed in the Corning case. Question: How do we provide incentives for people in different departments to work together?

Information Sharing XML: Extensible Markup Language, is a technology that allows us to define our own tags in web documents, and create structured web documents. This leads to programs that can share information with each other. Organizational Structures are now virtual, with teams coming together for projects and then disbanding. Examples of IT causing temporary or permanentfinancial loss to companies: Foxmeyer, SABRE, ZapMail (fedex), Chemical Banking (Home banking) IT can lead to ethical dilemmas (selling customer information), as well as commoditize jobs.
