What is Drama? Drama is the a story preformed by actors before a audience. Drama can be broken up into acts or scenes. An example of a drama is Romeo and Juliet. This is a tragic drama

Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story “Romeo and Juliet” is and “West Side Story” are Tragic/Romantic dramas. These stories both have a tragic hero. Also they have two characters that fall in love with one another, but have ties with two different groups that hate each other.

Foil Characters A character that differs to another character. Ex.Romeo’s foil character is Mercutio. They differ because Mercutio is more of a joker and is rude to his elders, but Romeo is more sincere and is more polite to others

Marty The story Marty is a tragic comedy. This story stars a fat, lonely man. Whose mother wants him to get married like is other siblings. In the end of the play Marty meets a woman. Ironically Marty’s mother does not approve.

Three types of irony Verbal irony: Is basically sarcasm Dramatic irony: The difference of what a character thinks compared to the audience. Situational irony: Think of a prank reversed on the prankster.

Shakespeare’s Plot line Shakespeare’s plot line is just like this graph. This plot contains introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion.

Shakespeare’s Tragedy Shakespeare's tragedy and love is based on drama. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic drama that is based on love for one another. There love although brings suffering to both of there families.

Soliloquies A Soliloquies a dramatic device with a character on stage(alone) and he or she talks about inner thoughts. Ex. In Act 2 scene 5 .Juliet is waiting lone in her families orchard for the nurse to return has a 17 line long soliloquy.

Blank Verse “A Blank Verse is unrhymed poetry or dramatic verse written in a meter known as iambic pentameter”. From the text book.

Monologue “A long speech or written expression of ideas by a character in a literary work”. From text book. Example. At the end of Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence sums up the whole play.

Allusion “Allusion is a reference to a well know character,place, and situation of history, art, music, or other work of literature”. From text book.

Aside Asides are found in plays. The character makes a comment to the audience which the the other characters cannot hear on the stage.

Chorus The chorus is the person who talks directly to the audience and does the prologues. In Romeo and Juliet he does all the prologues in acts 1 and 2.

Prologues An introduction at the beginning of a play. Example. There is a prologue in the begging of act 1 of Romeo and Juliet.

Oxymoron Is a figure of speech in which opposite ideas are combined. Example. The boy is a smart, dumb person.

Stage Directions Instructions written by playwright that describe the appearance of and actions of characters. Example.Fade in: is to go from dark screen to a full picture. Dissolve: to overlap the end of one scene with the beginning of another.
