The Cardon Mountain

Geographical Situation The Cardon Mountain is a Natural Monument located in the municipality of Pajara (Fuerteventura), just the blue dot …

Extension of Cardon Mountain This mountain has an area of hectares with a minimum altitude is 177 meters and a maximum altitude of 691 meters.

Why is this mountain protected? Cardon Mountain is a solid mountain that presents an interesting relief, due to millions of years of erosion that has sculptured an impressive landscape formed by a sharp ridge. Its slopes are home to the Canary Island Daisy, a species of vegetation endemic on the Island. It is a protected area because they try to keep the endemic species of flora and fauna of the area. This space is an area of ecological sensitivity, indicated by the law of Prevention of Environmental Impact.

Other values Cardon Mountain has important scenic resources, especially in its eastern slopes, where the mountain rises from just a plain. It also has floristic richness in rock-dwelling species, some endangered and most protected, which also gives a great scientific value.

Endemic Species A endemic species of the island growing in the mountain is the Cardon plant and Jorjao.
