Level 2 Occupational Health & Safety Training Online Training

Tips and Tools Here are a few tips to help make your online training experience more user friendly: The training material is printable. However, please print only if necessary - think green! You will be able to access the modules via the Main Menu page at the end of this Introductory Module. Each module will open in a separate window. When you complete a module, close that module’s window and return to the main menu at the end of this introduction to open another module. It is recommended that you proceed through the training in order, beginning with Module 1 and ending with the Graded Exam. At the same time, this online training is meant to be self-paced, so you can start and pause your online session as necessary. You’ll notice that the module outline appears on the left-hand side of the screen. This can help you situate yourself inside a module’s learning structure.

Tips and Tools You will notice at times that the screen is presented in a standardized viewing mode, while at other times the screen has been enlarged for optimal viewing. Keep an eye out for either blinking navigation icons or prompts which will keep you moving forward through your training. Wait a few seconds and you will see them appear to assist you. You will mostly be using this icon * : You may also add a bookmark link to any of the three modules in progress using the “Bookmark” tab located at the top right-hand side of the window. This will enable you to return to the exact same place you left off. When going through the module, avoid having too many windows open at the same time. This will slow down the program. Various key documents are available under the “Attachment ” tab located at the top right-hand side of the window. You will be prompted to consult these documents as you go through the three modules. Some of the key documents include the Canada Labour Code – Part II (CLC), as well as the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and a Glossary. * Not to be confused with the skip ahead button:

Introduction Welcome to Level 2 Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Online Training! The following three modules constitute Level 2 OHS Online Training and are intended for managers and supervisors* as well as OHS Committees members and representatives: Module 1: Federal OHS Legislation Module 2: Hazard Prevention at Parks Canada Module 3: Effective Hazardous Occurrence Investigations * From this point forward, the terms « supervisor(s) » and « manager(s) » will be represented by the single word « manager(s) ».

Introduction Successful completion of Level 1 “Canada Labour Code (CLC), Part II Employee Awareness” Online Training is a pre-requisite to Level 2 OHS Online Training. If it has been some time since you completed the Level 1 “CLC, Part II Employee Awareness” Online Training, you are encouraged to review its contents as a refresher. Once you have completed all 3 modules, you are required to take a graded exam in order to complete the OHS mandatory requirements. The established passing mark is 75%.Level 1 “Canada Labour Code (CLC), Part II Employee Awareness” Online Training As a manager or supervisor, you play a major role in occupational health and safety to identify, control and eliminate work place hazards. You are responsible to provide employees with appropriate equipment, tools and materials and to ensure their proper use. You must inform employees on hazards associated with their work and provide them with safe work methods, training and personal protective equipment to ensure they are working safely. You must supervise their work and ensure safety standards are respected.

Introduction Each of the three modules in Level 2 OHS Online Training contains key information as well as interactive learning activities. These activities provide you with opportunities to gain further insight into OHS requirements and to apply this new knowledge to the realities of your Parks Canada workplace. You will also be given direct access to important reference documents which will make your participation in the health and safety of your workplace that much more effective and efficient.

Setting the Context A bit of context to this training: The Canada Labour Code, Part II requires the employer to:  125.1(z) “ensure that employees who have supervisory or managerial responsibilities are adequately trained in health and safety and are informed of the responsibilities they have under this Part where they act on behalf of their employer;”  125.1(z.01) “ensure that members of policy and work place committees and health and safety representatives receive the prescribed training in health and safety and are informed of their responsibilities under this Part;” Hence, if you are a manager or an OHS Committee member or representative, this training is for YOU.

Setting the Context Additionally, the Parks Canada Agency Occupational Health and Safety Policy puts emphasis on these training requirements and aims to ensure the health and safety of all Parks Canada staff. Level 2 OHS Online Training aims to meet these legal requirements while demonstrating Parks Canada’s commitment to being an employer of choice.Parks Canada Agency Occupational Health and Safety Policy

Course Purpose While consolidating the knowledge you’ve acquired in the Level 1 “Canada Labour Code, Part II Employee Awareness” Online Training, this module presents information of particular importance to you both as a manager and an OHS Committee member or representative. This information will help you better fulfill your responsibilities in terms of occupational health and safety.
