Let’s Solve the Mystery of the ABC’s Raise your hands if you know your ABC’s Who knows how to sing their ABC’s? Let’s sing the ABC’s together! (play song: 5s) 5s Can anyone count how many letters are in the ABC’s? Count along with me! (Count ABC’s on whitboard)

COUNT ALONG WITH ME ABCDEFGH IJKLMNOP QRSTUVWX Y&Z There are 26 alphabets. Yes, 26!

Uppercase & Lowercase Alphabets Who can tell me what an uppercase letter is? Is an uppercase letter “A” look like this, “a” or “A”? Who can tell me what a lowercase letter is? Does it look like this, “B” or “b”? Uppercase means the letter is big, such as “B” Lowercase means the letter is small, such as “b”

Mix-n-Match & Solve with me Circle the letter uppercase A, B, & C: 1.A a 2.b B 3.C c Match upper case letters to lower case letters: Ac Cb Ba

How do we use uppercase letters? One way to use uppercase letters is in our name. An uppercase letter is used for the first letter of our first name, middle name, and last name. Example: My name is Kimi Wainani Nagahisa Notice how Kimi has a uppercase K in the beginning (point to the uppercase K), so does my middle name, and last name.

What is your name? My name is spelled: Do you know how to spell you first name? Lets practice! (hand out customized name worksheets to students so they can trace their names, beginning with the capital letter of their first name)

Why is learning out ABC’s Awesome? Learning our ABC’s helps us to: 1. Build words 2. Break down words 3. Read better 4. Write more clearly 5. Become superstar students
