Equations Students will be able to solve equations using mental math, or guess and check.

Equations ► An equation is a mathematical sentence that shows two quantities are equal. ► Yesterday, we discussed expressions, which did not show that two quantities were equal.

Expression/Equation ► Expression: u + 14, u is 12 ► Equation: u + 14 = 26

Solution ► The solution is the number that makes the equation true. ► With an expression you were told what the variable was, but with an equation you have to find the solution for the variable.

Solving the Equation ► The process of find the solution is called solving the equation. ► For now, we will use predict and test to find the solution that solves the equation.
