This slideshow is about the Iditarod Race. The Iditarod Race started because of a disease called Diphtheria. So, the people in Fairbanks want to give the people in Nome the medicine. They used the sled dogs to bring it to them. So they can live.
The routes change this year because they didn’t have a lot of snow. They started in Fairbanks this year. It ends at Nome. There are 1049 miles in the race. There are 17 checkpoint.
My musher name is Ellen Halverson her bib number is 35 she is 54 years old born in North Dakota and her hometown is Wasilla Alaska.
There wear booties and harness. The equipment is harness and booties and rope. The dog they use are Husky. They start with 16 dogs. If a dog get injured in the middle of the race the musher has to put them in the sled.
She did not win any awards because she scratched from the race. But the person in 1st place got a truck, trophy too and a lot of money. The Red Lantern is a trophy that the the last place musher winners. GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award is given to the person that reach the halfway checkpoint which this year was Iditarod.
