Armenian Genocide – 8 Stages Example in the Genocide 1 – Classification “Us vs. Them” Armenians are looked upon as the “bad guys” after years of inequality in the Ottoman Empire and because of their religion 2- Symbolization “Victims are given symbols” The largest symbol was their religion AKA Christian 3 – Dehumanization “Make them look less than human” Armenians never had equal rights in the Ottoman Empire Hamidian Massacre says it is OK to kill them Armenian soliders disarmed, segregated, and massacred Armenians are “relocated” and “exiled” by government
