HOW STARTED THE WORLD WAR II
Presentation transcript:

Objective: I can explain how aggressive Axis expansion and the policy of appeasement led to World War II.

 Most countries in Europe were anxious to avoid another costly war—both in terms of lives and money.

 Hitler claimed he was uniting all German speaking people in one ‘greater Germany’.

 Sudetenland

 Czechoslovakia was a powerful new country and had the backing of the Soviet Union.

 Britain, France, Italy, and Germany

 Czechoslovakia, because the Munich conference dealt with its borders and country.

 It was decided that Germany would occupy the Sudetenland within 10 days and other parts of Czechoslovakia would go to Poland and Hungary. The French and British governments agreed. The Czechoslovakian government was told to agree or face Germany alone.

 It was generally felt giving Hitler the Sudetenland was a good price to pay for peace.

 Politics over war

 Britain lost without even fighting a war and eventually appeasement will lead to war.

 Sudetenland for agreement, other parts against the agreement.

 No, because Hitler will invade the rest of Czechoslovakia a couple months after the Munich Agreement.

 1. Anschluss  2. Protection  3. Poland  4. Versailles  5. Chamberlain  6. Sudetenland  7. Territory  8. Communism  9. Reasonable  10. Munich  11. Hitler
