Today or by mail

3 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Recalling the basics

4 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Methods Redaction of effective purposes and guidelines –Guidelines rather than by-laws……Year 1 –Posted on the public NPSS website Installation of a yearly cycle of 3 telephone calls –prior to the next AdCOM –these TelCo and parallel s help to report news, needs and motions to the AdCOM ……Year 1 Installation of a collaborative website –based on BaseCamp thanks to Tony …… Year 3 –This website also serves as repository of documents and works Result: we begin to be spontaneously contacted (volunteering of post-doc as well as associate professor)

5 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Membership in TNS vs in NPSS This is the crucial matter = balance between NPSS membership versus TNC membership –A rule of thumb of one TMC member for each hundredth NPSS members –It means, routhly, a committee of 20 members –Not less, not more Recruiting news TNC Members during these past 4 years –New representatives in R10 Seoul, Beijing, and Japan and R9 Brazil –UK next to follow in R8, hopefully!

6 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim TNC LIST to date Permanent Committee (in, eg, meeting or conferences or mailing during the last two years) R10 Anatoly Rosenfeld, RI and MI, Australia Zhen-An Liu, RI and CANPS, China (new member 2009) Guyseong Cho, MI, Korea (new member 2010) Haru Nomachi, RI and CANPS, Japan(new member 2011) R9 Gabriella Hoff, Brazil(new member 2010) R8 Uwe Bratzler, RI, Germany-USA Alberto Del Guerra, MI, Italy Evangelos Gazis, RI, Greece Erik Heijne, RI, The Netherlands + CERN Christoph Ilgner, RI, Germany Patrick Le Du, RI and CANPS Jean-Luc Leray, RE, France Marek Moszinski, RI, Poland Stanislav Pospisil, RI, Czech Republic Maxim Titov, RI, France-Ukraine Archana Shana, RI, CERN Alessandro Paccagnella, RE, Italy (new member 2009) Peter Beck, RE, Austria(new member 2009) Cincia da Via, RI, UK(new member 2012) Advisory members Sub Committee (Consultative Members « in the reserve » in « advisory » position, ex officio) Eugenio Perillo, R8, Italy (since 2010) 18 = 13 R81 R9 5 R10 ~ about one for every 100 NPSS Members + 1 Advisory Expectation: member from India (residing in India) Expectation: members from Northern Europe And UK

7 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Membership needs (2) = a Directory vs a Roster? Deep reflexion concerning NPSS Directory –Initiated by Erik Heijne – regrets the paper directories / edition discontinued It was found that there were two kind of needs –Need for a roster available to the NPSS membership in good standing, with names and grades but no much more A scan of other societies practicies has been made The knowledge of a name would allow contact possible through the MyIEEE system, beyond the NPSS –Need for TNC and AdCOM to access to a more precise directory of functions, awards, committes, MGA activities For promotion purposes, eg, nominations (senior, fellow) and TNC networking in a specific area => Accessible to AdCOM officers and Membership Chair through SAMIEE

8 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Member Roster Project Rationale presented at AdCOM, March 2011, as a conclusion Contracted with IEEE by AdCOM, early 2012 –Coordinating with the Membership Committee and the AdCOM Secretary (and the Finance Chair) To appear on the NPSS webpages, soon as a roster of names grade, region, password protected On Going Action

9 IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Improvements Support to Transnational Conferences / or events « WHAREHOUSE SYSTEM » –Custom (free circulation within EU-27) –A managing contractor has been selected in France –Cost and pain saving, return of papers, banners and goods for re- use –Minimize risk of loss and roberry March 2012 AdCOM - Motion passed Proposal for treating the case of R8 / Europe / Estimated cost for 3 conferences a year Transnational Committee for European booth equipment and Storage: It was moved and passed that NPSS budget up to $15,000 in 2012 and yearly thereafter to replace and enhance booth equipment for European conferences and to secure European warehouse and shipping capabilities to store and ship IEEE and NPSS booth equipment and literature for European conferences. (R10 may follow if sucessful) Printing the roll-ups in France avoiding shipment costs, etc

IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Transnational Y in R8, R9 and R10 Conferences In R8 – the foundation of the ANIMMA Conference –As earlier as , Belgium and France Nuclear National Labs and Industries intended to set a Nuclear Instrumentation international Conference (« ANIMMA ») in Europe –The local TNC members, also the local NPSS France and Belgium Chapters, helped at that time ( ) to install cosponsorship and MoU between NPSS and ANIMMA To provide scientists To promote publication througu IEEE 2009 (Marseilles), 2011 (Ghent) and 2013 (Marseilles) – UK to come in attendees – The Post Fukushima nuclear world - a more secure nuclear industry Therefore thru this opportunity in R8, Nuclear Science may re-activate Nuclear Engineering For the purposes of reinforcing nuclear safery by physics methods In R9, since 2009, Pr Gabriella Hoff is instrumental in linking with Brazil – Uruguay-Argentina instrumentation and radioprotection societies In R10, thru the seminar and conference activities – since 2008, Pr Zhen-An Liu at Beijing HEP is being instrumental in the installation of a Chapter _ opening may happen soon – Linking with the Chinese NEDS Nuclear Detection Society has been evoked – NEDS is a subsidiary of the CEI, the Chinese Electronic Institute –People in China are interested in hosting NSS/MIC 2018 (TIPP in 2017) In R10, Pr Anatoly Rosenfeld big network based from Wollongong Australia Also volunteer for hosting NSS/MIC In R10 also, we have new members in Japan and Korea – more to see in Seoul 2013

IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim Current topics under way Project: “Summer Schools” Discussion at July 2012 AdCOM in Edinburgh –Transnational - Change the name? Transnational = Transatlantic, Transpacific? –Duplicate TNC? TNC-R8 (&R9?) TNC-R10 Advantages : would mimic regional activities, with better replication of actual world as it is. Risk : generation of two separate networks, the East (R10) versus the West (of Pacific). What about India?

IEEE NPSS TRANSNATIONAL COMMITTEE AdCOM Nov. 03, 2012, Anaheim TNC We tried To be analytical and rational To be attentive To be proactive Not to make everything by ourselves when other are more efficient in action or legitimate Thanks to All More to come!
