NNSN Real-time data-acquisition Event detection and Monitoring

Stations in NNSN Norwegian National Seismic Network and other seismic stations in Norway. Blue symbols are NNSN stations and red symbols are NORSAR arrays. The station JMIC is operated by NORSAR.

SEISLOG configurations SEISLOG Windows SEISLOG Embedded DIGITISER SEISLOG Linux LISS-server SeedLink-server LISS-server DIGITISER Central LINUX system SeedLink-server TCP/IP communication over: ADSL ISDN GPRS(mobile phone lines) GPS

What is LISS Made for installations and maintenance of the Global Seismic Network and collection and distribution of data produced by these stations. Sends out live data from the Global Seismic Network Albuquerque Seismological Lab is part of USGS and responsable Protocol: one-way only Data transmitted in standardized MiniSeed format 512 byte blocks. 32 byte integer, Steim1 or Steim2 compression

What is SEEDLINK Similar to LISS with extra headers added Capable of 2 way communication Retransmission SEEDLINK server made by GFZ-Potsdam and integrated in their SEISCOMP acquisition system Used for GEOFON network and others Data transmitted in standardized MiniSeed format 512 byte blocks. 32 byte integer, Steim1 or Steim2 compression

Software All SEISLOG Linux routines are written in C Software identical for desktop PC, laptop and embedded Utilities for monitoring and graphics are written as clients communicating with SEISLOG server over sockets Ringbuffer and event files written in MiniSEED format SEISAN S-files written in SEISAN data base structure Waveform data written in SEISAN data base structure Server function emulates LISS server (transmission of 512 byte MiniSEED blocks over Internet)

Communication for NNSN Fixed internet (university network), free Fixed internet (university network), free Internet with ADSL, cheap Internet with ADSL, cheap Internet with ISDN, expensive Internet with ISDN, expensive Internet with mobile phone (3G, Edge or GPRS), medium price Internet with mobile phone (3G, Edge or GPRS), medium price

Previous NNSN data collection: SEISNET

NNSN real time system Data in realtime to data center in Bergen Improved network monitoring Central triggering instead of local at station Should be based on well tested public domain software Develope new software for real time systems and make it public domain Use the protocols LISS and/or SEEDlink

NNSN real-time data acquisition Linux station SEISLOG Seedlink server LINUX SERVER Seedlink continous Liss continous Liss continous SEISAN DATA-BASE FTP/Telnet Windows station SEISLOG Embedded Linux Station SeedLink Server 24-hour Continous data files Re-transmission Communication with other Seedlink servers. EarthWorm Input data from SeedLink server Triggering Helicorder plots SEISAN SEISNET

EARTHWORM helicorder plot

NNSN experience 20 stations from Norway 3 stations from Finland 3 stations from Finland 3 stations from Denmark 3 stations from Denmark 4 stations from UK 4 stations from UK EARTHWORM has triggered reliably but real time station density is too low to give good coverage in some parts parts of the network SeedLink server has been very stable The graphical monitoring of real-time data has been very useful
