The Role for CHW’s in Idaho’s SIM Mary Sheridan, Director Idaho State Office of Rural Health & Primary Care Idaho Department of Health & Welfare Mary Sheridan, RN, MBA, is the Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Rural Health & Primary Care, Division of Public Health, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, since She has many years of clinical nursing experience and was an Idaho EMS Bureau program manager for eight years prior to moving into the rural health bureau. Mary is the current president of the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health and appreciates the opportunity to learn about rural health challenges and successes in other states. She is married to her high school sweetheart, the proud mother of three sons, and loves spending time with her three grandsons. Mary is passionate about family, healthcare innovation, and rural health issues.

Overview on Training for Oregon’s CHWs Zeenia Junkeer, MD, CHW Program Coordinator at the Urban League of Portland and the Maternal and Child Health Project Lead Oregon Public Health Institute Dr. Zeenia Junkeer is a Naturopathic physician who specializes in public health programs and improving care for those who face the greatest inequities. Her work has taken her internationally which has provided an opportunity to learn about how global and public health practices often create a cascade of unintended consequences when programs, policies and care fail to take into account the experiences and wisdom of the community members they intend to serveU.S. Dr. Junkeer works as the CHW Program Coordinator at the Urban League of Portland and the Maternal and Child Health Project Lead at the Oregon Public Health Institute

Traditional Health Workers April Johnson, MPA Health Equity Workforce Manager, Office of Equity and Inclusion April Johnson works for the Oregon Health Authority in the Office of Equity and Inclusion. April manages the Traditional Health Worker and Health Care Interpreter programs ensuring that Oregonians have access to innovative services within the new coordinated care health system.

Oregon: Approach to Certification and Payment of for CHWs April Johnson from the Oregon Health Authority, Office of Equity and Inclusion. April is the directer of the Community Health Worker Certification program. Support equitable access to employment, agency wide implementation of workforce diversity recruitment, and retention best practices. The Office provide community partners with resources, training, and technical help to eliminate health disparities; and works with county health departments, Coordinated Care Organizations, community-based coalitions, and other stakeholders to increase capacity to advance health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
