Unit 2 Section 2.2 – Day 2

2.2: More Graphs and Displays  Sometimes data will be represented by paired data sets (two values that correspond to one another).  Graphs Using Paired Data Sets:  Scatter Plot  Time Series Chart

Scatter Plot  Scatter Plot – ordered pairs are plotted as points in a coordinate plane.  Shows the relationship between two quantitative variables.  Tips for a Scatter Plot  Label the axes. Make sure the scale is appropriate.  Plot points using their corresponding values.  Describe any trends in the data. Section 2.2

Example 1: Scatter Plot  Create a Scatter Plot using the following info: Average Salary for Employees Based on Length of Employment Section 2.2 Length of Employment (Years)Salary (dollars) 532, , , , , , , , , ,000

Time Series Chart  Time Series Graph – represents data that occurs over a specific period of time.  Tips for Time Series Graph  Draw and label the x and y axes.  The x axis usually represents time, the y axis an amount.  Plot each point according to the table.  Draw line segments connecting adjacent points.  Make sure scales are appropriately drawn. Section 2.2

Example 2: Time Series Chart  Create a Time Series Chart using the following info: The Number (in millions) of Vehicles That Used the Pennsylvania Turnpike: Section 2.2 YearNumber
