Metals and nonmetals Ch.4, section 3 and 4. Alkali Metals (group 1) React with other elements by losing one electron. Very reactive Found only in compounds.
Properties of the Periodic Table. Periodic Table: Atomic number – the identity of an element Row = Period (Horizontal Rows #1-7) The atomic # increases.

Four elements and their discoveries Nitrogen-Rutherford-Scotland 1772 Phosphorous-Henning Brand-Germany 1669 Antimony-scientific discovery began around the 17 th century Bismuth-1753 Claude Geoffroy

Four uses Elements in the Nitrogen family are located in the P block on the Periodic table and used for things like… Cosmetics Insecticides Tracer bullets Matches

Nature?? Nitrogen is found primarily in the atmosphere Phosphorus is found in phosphate rocks Antimony and bismuth can be found as free elements And arsenic as a sulfide or oxide.

The wonderful world of Electrons!! arsenic!! 33e- 1s 2 2s 2 2p 6 3s 2 3p 6 4s 2 3d 10 4p 3 Bismuth!! 51e- 1s 2 2s 2 2p 6 3s 2 3p 6 4s 2 3d 10 4p 6 5s 2 4d 10 5p 3

Low, medium, high! Reactive? Overall the nitrogen family is somewhat to very reactive depending on the element’s form. Densities? Overall there are medium densities for Group 15. Ionization? For the entire nitrogen family the first ionization level is medium to high depending on the element.
