Status of Work in 3GPP2 The major fields of standardization in 3GPP2 are currently the following: – 1x Enhancement – HRPD Enhancement – Interworking with Non-3GPP2 systems – Femto Cells Most of these items are either substantially complete or in Stage 2/Stage 3 development. Once current TSG-S items in development (e.g., S.P0139 Femtocell System Overview) are complete, there will be very little additional work on requirements or security. 2

Status of Work in TSG-S Documents published this year: – S.R x Calling Party Number Presentation (CPNP) during e1xCSFB Stage 1 Requirements – S.S Advanced Security Framework for HRPD and eHRPD Systems Requirements development in process – M2M SRD – RAN Power Mgmt SRD – Femtocell/picocell SRD – Femtocell Overview – USSD SRD – Downloadable Credentials (eUICC) Femto and M2M Impact must be considered wrt 3GPP2 NAM PMT activities are on-going, primarily based on monthly conference calls. Security issues need to be investigated wrt M2M and Downloadable credentials. Other WIs may be issued in the future. 3

Chair’s Assessment of Future TSG-S Work WG1: Requirements work will decrease substantially in Much of the development work can be successfully progressed using GTM tool. WG2: Technical work is conducted in conjunction with other TSGs, especially TSG-X. TSG-S meeting is for admin processing only. WG3: Number of new WIs will decrease substantially in 2012 and process documents will become stable. Monthly GTM calls have been very successful in progressing work. WG4: Participation has been minimal. Based on low participation, technical development using GTM is viable. 4

Chair’s Recommendations for Future TSG-S Meetings Reduce total number of TSG-S face-to-face meetings in 2012 to three (3) (or four (4) if necessary). Shift to increased WG development using GTM including call in for joint TSG sessions, especially when the other TSGs are meeting face-to-face. Also implement more interim Plenary GTM calls as needed to progress the work. The plan details can be discussed in Ottawa. Schedule Interim WG and Plenary calls (via GTM sessions) in lieu of TSG-S face-to-face meetings for September 2011 in Chengdu, China as a trial to begin implementing this meeting reduction plan. TSG-S will still meet in December Give preliminary notice to the 3GPP2 SC of these plans at their Chengdu meeting on 23 September
