WARM UP TUTORIAL What we will be doing everyday—the first 5-6 minutes of class.

Journals, Standards, Reading, and Vocab Monday: Standard Writing Journal. Tuesday: Standard Writing Journal. Wednesday: Reading Journal. Thursday: Un-packing the standard Journal. Friday: Vocab Quiz (not in journal).

Mondays and Tuesdays Written in your journals themselves Standard writing journals are self- explanatory. The writing topics will vary based on what we are studying in that particular quarter. Q1: The Natural World. -These journals will be about nature and related political topics. -I want to hear your opinions in your standard journals!

Wednesdays (Usually Early Release) Written in your journals themselves Wednesdays will be used as reading time. -For the first 10 minutes of class you will be asked to have your own novel to read. -After the 10 minutes are up, you will be responsible for answering the journal about your reading. -I will randomly call a number and we will discuss what you have read in the 10 minutes. -This will be every week! You must have a book by next week to read. -It can only be a magazine/newspaper article if it is approved by me first.

Thursdays Written in your journals themselves Thursdays will be the most important, but the most dull. It’s very important that you’re kept in the loop with what we’re doing here in the classroom. Because of this– On Thursdays we will “un-pack” a reading standard. Because you all will have a DIA every quarter that you have a VLT, there will be a lot of directions and standards being taught at a fast pace. This journal will be helpful in the practice of understanding. 1. You will be given a standard to record in your journal. 2. You will re-record the standard in your own words. 3. You will write on a scale of 1 to 3 how well you feel you have mastered this standard. 1 being totally lost, 2 being semi-confident, and 3 being complete mastery.

Fridays On the website and in class– you will be able to get the 5 vocabulary words for the week. These words will be quizzed on Friday. Our first quiz is not this week but the next. The words are already on the website. 1. There is no exception to taking these quizzes. If you are here– you are taking it. 2. Because they were posted online– even if you are absent– you should be able to take the quiz. 3. No, I’m not sure exactly what they will look like yet– but I know that there will be 3 types. 4. These quizzes will be formative—unless I feel that needs to change. 5. Because they are formative, you will not be able to re- take these quizzes.
