Chemical Sedimentary Rock Hill Science 6

Chemical Sedimentary Rock Most common chemical sedimentary rock is limestone. Forms in shallow sea water CaCO3 precipitates out of sea water and forms limestone.

To Create a Precipitate

Chemical Sedimentary Rock Chert – silica flint, agate and jasper Yellowstone travertine - CaCO3 from hot springs agate chert

Chemical Sedimentary Rock Geodes – silica filled cavities in limestone left by gas or organic matter that has decayed

Chemical Sedimentary Rock Evaporites – crystals form when water evaporates gypsum, halite

Sedimentary Rocks Tell us what the Earth's surface was like in the past. Only sedimentary rocks contain fossils! Fossils can tell us about ancient plants, animals, and climates.
