Presentation transcript:

 The forbidden city took one million workers and fifteen years to construct.  The Great Wall of China was built with stone, brick, and wood. They built this wall to protect the Chinese emperor.  The Terracotta Army is a collection of statues of armies of Quin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. Although the number of statues are unknown.

 The Cave of the Beasts  The Panther  The Golden Nugget  Women’s Words Part Flesh and Blood

 The first story listed is about a father who wants to leave his four daughters stranded alone in the mountains to be devoured by a fox and wolves for eating his food. He convinces two of them to go by telling them they are going to their grandmothers house, when in reality he is leaving them in the middle of nowhere to die. Although the girls survived for days in a cave until their father felt bad and came back for them, only to find them with lots of jewels and riches and the family lived happily ever after.

 The second folktale listed is about a widow and her three children: two daughters and a son. She leaves the two daughters home alone as the mother and son leave to go visit the children’s grandmother. Although the mother and son are devoured by a panther on their way to grandmothers house and the panther finds his way to the family’s home only to try and consume the two daughters. The daughters were distraught to hear the news of their mother and brother so they cried, attracting many others who heard their story and gave things to them to help get rid of the panther. From all the goods given to the daughters it helped them put an end to him.

 Both stories began with “Once upon a time.”  In each story the characters told others that they would be going to grandmothers house and in each story neither ever actually made it there.  Both stories include a family with daughters.

 “Chinese Values, Customs, and Beliefs”  “Folklore Research in Communist China”

 This article talks about how each story begins with “once upon a time” and how in Chinese stories a character will go on a journey and an animal will determine the characters actions for the rest of the story.  It also states how stories would begin to start out with truthful actions, but eventually unrealistic things would begin to happen and the story becomes a myth.

 This article talks about how primitive man’s world didn’t have the understanding of daytime and night-time. They neither understood the distinction from walking or actually being asleep and dreaming.  In primeval times the immaturity of actions and language was important for primitive man to show his ideas with exaggeration. The exaggeration caused a loss of truth and eventually lead the story to become a myth.

 In both articles it talks about how Chinese stories begin with truthful events, but as you get deeper into the story unrealistic actions begin to arise and it turns into a myth.

 Once upon a time there were 2 brothers and 3 sisters. They all lived together and did everything together. The sister’s names were jinn, Juan, and Lidia. Jinn and Juan were twins. And Lidia was a twin just with Danny. The boy’s names were Danny and Jang.  All of the kids were going to walk to their grandparent’s house for dinner. On their way up the first hill they see something run across the road. Only Danny had seen it so he didn’t say anything to the others. But then he seen it again and so did Jinn. None of the others even noticed that something that big was running out in front of them. After seeing it she asked them if that seen it and denied it except for Danny. But no matter what they continued to keep walking.  After they got down the hill onto the straight stretch of the road. All of them see 10 wolves running towards them. All of them took off running towards their grandma’s house to try and get away from them. Running away from something made them feel like the house was forever away.  Just when you expected it Juan wasn’t running as fast as he could and “BAMM” the wolves got her. She was screaming and crying begging for them to get off and then about 3 minutes later she could no longer feel anything. All of the wolves then were on top of her. The other kids get to the grandparents’ house and they run inside yelling about what happened. While they were saying what happened the papaw got a gun and took off.  By the time the papaw got back to Juan she was unconscious. Luckily she still had a heartbeat. He puts her in the car and rushes to the hospital. In the end she lived and got better.
