Goals for Students High expectations for all students Recognition of differences in culture, language and learning styles Inclusion for all students Building of self-esteem Development of empathy and sympathy Elimination of racism, sexism, and the other “isms”

Social Goals and Curriculum Ideas Listen to different songs, read different books from different cultures, countries, and ethnic groups Teach and translate materials in different languages and have children learn in different languages Sharing time with children and their culture Involve parents and community leaders in sharing about culture and make tapes Make family trees and family books

More ideas Have various posters, magazines, and pictures and calendars of different cultural and ethnic group activities Learn alphabet in different languages Play games and learn finger plays and cultural folk tales Learn dances from different groups Encourage different gender roles in dramatic play –(Girls can be firefighters etc)

More ideas Food time is good social/emotional teaching time Field trips to different restaurants, stores etc. Materials in different genders, ethnic groups etc Teach good manners, sharing, helpers, responsibility, tolerance and patience Make rules like song or rap
