Diabetic students are allowed to: have a care plan in place (retrievable & secured) monitor their blood sugar anywhere in school or during school activities snack anywhere in school or during school activities to prevent or treat hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) use the restroom and access to fluids as necessary have immediate access to supplies at all times self- medicate with the appropriate permission Diabetic equipment

Seizure Different types of seizures : Present with varying changes in level of consciousness If the student shows a change in level of consciousness:  Observe & if possible take notes  Time  Call for help  Monitor  Notify nurse or first responder If loss of consciousness: Lower to floor in recovery position (side lying) Monitor breathing Do not put anything in the mouth Call for help Common Triggers  Specific time of day or night  Sleep deprivation – overtired, not sleeping well, not getting enough sleep  At times of fevers or other illnesses  Flashing bright lights or patterns  Alcohol or drug use  Stress  Associated with menstrual cycle (women) or other hormonal changes  Not eating well, low blood sugar  Specific foods, excess caffeine or other products that may aggravate seizures  Use of certain medications
