doc.: IEEE /1219r0 Report “Relevance of to 5G” –“Tutorial-panel discussion-Perspectives on IEEE in 5G” on Monday evening ~200 present.Tutorial-panel discussion-Perspectives on IEEE in 5G “ as a component” –Discussion in the architecture (ARC) SC –“Thoughts on in a 3GPP 5G Network”Thoughts on in a 3GPP 5G Network –“Update on 3GPP RAN3 Multi-RAT joint coordination”Update on 3GPP RAN3 Multi-RAT joint coordination “IEEE as IMT-2020”IEEE as IMT-2020 –Presentation to the WG –Description of IMT Discussion of how can be part of IMT This is different from IMT-advanced, because scope of IMT-2020 is much broader. doc.: IEEE /1219r0 Report There are multiple related threads in , but they all originate from “5G”, which defines a broad range of usage models and device capabilities. –Multiple bodies appear to claim “ownership” of 5G. Some of these capabilities clearly map on to technologies. Most (~80%) of today’s mobile data goes over Some believe we can ignore the “5G core network” aspects of 5G. Others believe we cannot afford to ignore this, and therefore have to be “compatible” or “friendly” towards integration with a 5G core network with varying degrees of coupling. Our experience of meaningful collaboration with 3GPP is poor. This encourages unnecessary duplication of radio access technologies. Discussion November 2015 Adrian Stephens, Intel CorporationSlide 4

doc.: IEEE /1219r0 Report 5G is both a challenge and an opportunity on many levels. –Marketing value –Core network refresh IMT-advanced really wasn’t relevant to because of its mobility requirements. IMT-2020 is not specific to highly mobile applications, but includes new usage models, such as IoT may satisfy some of the IMT 2020 requirements, and to be approved as an IMT 2020 technology might increase the chance of getting additional spectrum.
