Beksalova Aigerim(IBL112) Digital identity project Selfies

What is identity? Oxford English Dictionary states: 1 the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. 2 the characteristics determining this. 3 a close similarity or affinity. The set of characteristics or attributes that define who or what a person is that are recognized as belonging uniquely to that person.

What is digital identity? "digital identity" is typically a subset of the characteristics that define a person in the real world. A digital identity is the result of digital codification of characteristics and attributes in a way that is suitable for processing by computer systems. It represents a particular persona when engaging in online activities, which can be accessed by electronic or technical means.

Difference between digital and real identities Unlike real-life identity, digital identities can range from a simple username/password combination unrelated to any specific attribute or characteristic of the person to one that relies on sensitive and personally identifiable information from official credentials.

“Selfies” “Selfies” are the picture which are taken within an arm’s reach or in a mirror, usually include the extended arm in the shot, and are cropped around the subject’s face and upper body.

Facts about “Selfies” In November of 2013, Oxford English Dictionary elected “selfie” its word of the year. According to Oxford Dictionaries’ own research, the word’s frequency rose 17,000% since November ( /english/selfie)

Samsung discovered that selfies make up 30% of the photos taken by people between the ages of 18–24. There are 35 million posts containing#selfie among the 150 million Instagram users. People have taken self-portraits since the 1880s, when camera shutters with self-timers were first available. This increased in 1900 with the debut of the portable Kodak Brownie box.

As of October 2013, Miley Cyrus is the celebrity with the most amount of posted selfies on Twitter with 121. Tyra Banks is second with 62. Time magazine included the word selfie in its “top 10 buzzwords” of 2012.

The earliest known selfie Research shows the word selfie in use by The earliest known usage is found in an Australian online forum post: 2002 ABC Online (forum posting) 13 Sept. “Um, drunk at a mates 21st, I tripped ofer [sic] and landed lip first (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie.”

The 1 st “selfie” Robert Cornelius produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 which is also one of the first photographs of a person. Because the process was slow he was able to uncover the lens, run into shot for a minute or more, and then replace the lens cap. He recorded on the back "The first light Picture ever taken "

Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna at the age of 13 was one of the first teenagers to take her own picture using a mirror to send to a friend in In the letter that accompanied the photograph, she wrote, "I took this picture of myself looking at the mirror. It was very hard as my hands were trembling."

???

Why “selfies” are interesting? They provide the most succinct example of how new technologies, namely social media and smartphones, have altered cultural production and personal expression.

Selfies are: casual fun addicting a global movement, documenting the lives of people “selfies” are universal mode of communication produced for the purpose of sharing over a network have changed the way we photograph ourselves an example of how culture is influenced by the digital age are the things we say about ourselves to ourselves while other people are listening

Another side of selfies depression “The pressure of taking the right picture, with the right filter, wearing the right outfit, at the right place, with the right people was too much pressure.” ( unrealistic selves addiction to the comments and likes you get narcissistic provocative

My experiment#1

Conclusion: The most common “selfie” is the one where you look cute, partially because it's a quick way to get positive comments about your appearance; People are afraid of critics; Segregation of identities

Experiment#2 2 nd of april-31 st of may Purpose: to improve grades more free useful time eliminate the dependence from (Instagram,Ask,Mobli,Snapchat,InstaMessage,Odnoklassniki) Reached GOALS: enrolled in sports; more time outside; eliminate addiction ; more time for hobbies, study
