GO OVER TODAY’S TALKING POINTS AND THE ROCKET WAY Wednesday August 27 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K}

Today you will read a nonfiction piece, then explain the controlling idea and specific purpose by creating a six word memoir within a collaborative group. I have given you a handout covering my classroom procedures. Please read them carefully. We begin those procedures now. After reading the Classroom Procedures handout, please fold it into a hamburger. You will see that I have printed the title onto the back of the page; glue the page into your journal with the title showing; add this paper to your Table of Contents, including page number. If you are keeping handouts in a folder or binder, organize it in such a way as to find quickly, anything you are asked for. Wednesday August 27 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K}

Your Summer Assignments are due this Friday, August 29 without exception. The only reason why your assignment is not complete is that you moved into our District during the summer. If you went to one of the middle schools that feed Judson High School, then you have only excuses, not reasons. We don’t accept excuses here. Get it done by Friday! Wednesday August 27 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K}

One person in your group needs to come and get sheets of card stock paper for each person in the group. Fold about ¼” of the paper lengthwise. Now fold the remaining portion of the paper lengthwise in order to make a “tent”. Using the markers, PRINT your first and last names on one side of the tent; make sure it is readable, large enough, and dark enough to be read by passers-by. (me) Now, do the same thing on the other side of your tent. On the inside of the tent, write a complete sentence explaining what you would do if you had… An hour of free time A few hours of free time A long weekend of free time ***All three must be different

Wednesday August 27 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K} } Within your group, discuss what you think was done well in the piece “…Streets of Memphis”. In your journal, put the date, then the title: Group Discussion “…Memphis” Skip a line, then write a paragraph explaining what your group discussed. Use specific details and textual evidence from the piece. HOMEWORK: Today’s discussion paragraph FUTURE DUE DATES: SUMMER ASSIGNMENT FRIDAY!

Wednesday August 27 Advisory Period I have Health Cards if you need one If have your completed Health card, turn it in at the top tray next to the windows by my desk. READ OR DO HOMEWORK! STAY QUIET!

Tuesday August 26 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K} Let’s look at six-word memoirs-six-word memoirs You may be familiar with this form of expression
