Advisement for VSU Athletic Training Program Summer/Fall 2009

Preparation Use your advising checklist to look at the courses that are remaining for you to take. – You should have a copy of your checklist from previous advising sessions or you can find it at cademicprograminfo.shtml cademicprograminfo.shtml Use the undergraduate catalog to see the core requirements and core options. dex.shtml dex.shtml

Successfully complete both sections of the Regents exam by 45 hours or for transfer students at end of the semester in which you are applying to the program NO, then you do not meet the Athletic Training admissions criteria. Not considered for admission to the program Wait a year to next application cycle and apply again Change your major or transfer to another institution whose program criteria you do meet. Yes Completed this admission criteria,

Take 15 hours per semester No, then you are NOT on track. Take summer classes in order to have 45 earned hours by the end of fall semester to be considered for admission to the program If you do not have 45 earned hours by the fall semester to be considered for admission to the program then you will have to WAIT a year to be considered for admission. Yes, then you are on track. Must have 45 earned hours to be considered for admission to the program.

2.75 GPA by the end of spring or summer term No, then you are not eligible to BEGIN the admissions process. You can work to increase your GPA and apply to the program the next fall (you will be a 5 year graduate) You can change your major or consider transferring to another university with an AT program whose admissions criteria you do meet. Yes, then you are eligible to take KSPE 2050 and 2151 These classes are co- requisites and begin the admissions process for the program.

Take Biol 2651 and earn a “C” or better No Take it fall semester to meet the admissions criteria. You will you will have to WAIT a year to be considered for admission. You have meet this admissions requirement.

Common Registration Problems for Summer/Fall Semester KSPE 2050 and 2151 have to be registered for at the same time and on the SAME page in banner; they are co-requisites. If you get a pre-requisite error while registering for a class. (1) have you completed the pre-requisite class. If yes, see the Registrar. If no, then you can not take the class.

Transfer students If you transferred from out of state AND you transferred credit for POLS 1101 and/or HIST 2111 or 2112 then you are missing the required Georgia history and/or Georgia Constitution. You can either retake the courses or take an exemption test in the Testing Office in Powell Hall.

Taking Transient Courses (while still enrolled at VSU you take a course(s) at another university. 1.Check the university (that you plan to transiently enroll in) to see the courses that they offer. 2.Check the course description NOT the course name to be sure it covers the same material as the class that you would like to receive credit for at VSU. 3.Go to the Registrar’s office and ask for a Transient form 4.Complete your portion of the form and then take it to your advisor for signing, and then back to the Registrar. 5.Once you complete the class, the university where you took the course has to send confirmation that you completed the class to VSU. You need to check your transcript the following semester to make sure it is showing. 6.The VSU ATEP will not accept upper level AT courses.
