What are calories? Calories are a measure of the energy in food and energy your body burn.

The 3 nutrients that provide calories are? 1. Fats 2. Carbohydrates 3. Proteins

What factors influence the amount of calories I need? Body Size Gender Age Metabolic rate Rate of growth Activity level

How many calories should a person consume daily? Women/older adults: 1600 calories Children, teen girls, active women, most men: 2200 calories Teen boys, active men: 2800 calories

Calculations Sedentary people: weight X 14=estimated cal/day Moderately active people: weight X 17=estimated cal/day Active people: weight X 20=estimated cal/day Try calculating your own estimate! Guess your weight if you don’t know.
