© BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012 The vision Develop a pan-European competence framework for children and young people, focusing on: Diet (food and drink) Active lifestyles (physical activity) Energy balance Bring diet and activity together. Provide a progressive approach learning. Produce a consistent, up-to-date and accurate framework for all those involved in education.

© BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012 Development Establish advisory groups comprising experts from across Europe. Seek advice from organisations and individuals throughout Europe, including young people. Use the UK Food Standards Agency competence framework.

© BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012 The Framework content represents fundamental knowledge and behaviours around the 3 topic areas; progressive and cumulative from one phase to the next; covers ages of 5 to 16+ years; can be used in different countries, allowing for regional and cultural differences; aims to help young people to develop the skills and knowledge to make and implement healthy food and lifestyle choices.

The Framework can be used as: an audit tool in schools to help plan lessons; support for curriculum development; a focus for out of school activities; a vehicle to bring together diet and activity; a guide for those developing resources for young people, e.g. publishers, charities, industry.
