What are Fats ? - The substance in food that provides a rich texture and flavors. - Micronutrients required for the growth and development of the human body.

Functions of Fats - Provide energy - Build healthy cells - Build brains. - Helps the body use vitamins. - Makes hormones.

Sources of Fats -Animal fats: Butter, milk, cheese, egg. -Vegetable fats: Groundnuts, sesame, mustard, coconut. - Other sources: Cereals, pulses, nuts.

Effects of over consumption of Fats Over consumption of fats will cause : -Obesity. -Coronary heart diseases. -Cancer

How to reduce intake of Fats Try swapping sugary snacks for fruit or bread-based options such as fresh whole fruit or teacakes/malt loaf Try to halve the amount of sugar you put in hot drinks, or cut it out completely Choose tinned fruit in natural juice rather than syrup Eat lean meats.
