What would you leave behind?

Apollo 11 In Armstrong’s pocket was a small piece of the muslin from the left wing of the Wright Brothers’ 1903 plane. It was later sewn back onto the plane. While not pictured on the surface, Aldrin and Armstrong left an Apollo 1 mission patch.

Apollo 11

Apollo 12 Al Bean did not think he would ever get to fly into space. However, due to the death of C.C. Williams, his first trip into space was all the way to the moon. He left his silver astronaut pin there.

Apollo 12

Apollo 14 Al Shepard loved golf. Not only was he the only Mercury astronaut to make it to the moon, he was the only man ever to play golf on the moon.

Apollo 14

Apollo 15 Dave Scott, an astronaut dedicated to science on the moon, did the first science lesson for the general public that was televised during a live broadcast.

Apollo 15

Apollo 16 Due to the tremendous demands on the astronauts, most had terrible situations at home. Charles Duke left his family portrait on the moon.

Apollo 16

Apollo 17 Gene Cernan missed and loved his daughter very much. He told her before he left that “he would bring her back a moon rock”. He also wrote her initials in the lunar soil.

Apollo 17

Now – Your Homework! Think about what you would leave on the moon. Take a picture of it with your digital camera or the camera on your Palm. Be ready to share your picture tomorrow, along with an explanation of why you would leave that item behind.
