The Douro/Port blend can loosely be compared to the Bordeaux blend Touriga Nacional  Cabernet Sauvignon: Backbone of the blend. TN gives aromas of black fruit and violets. Predominant variety in higher-end or fuller-bodied Douro wines. Touriga Franca  Cabernet Franc: TF gives aromas of black cherries. Predominant variety in entry-level or lighter-bodied Douro wines. (a.k.a. Touriga Francesa, Touriga Francesca) Tinta Roriz = Tempranillo: Gives aromas of black fruit and is expressive of oak contact. Usually #3 variety in Douro blend.
