William R. Hamilton Born: August 4 th 1805 Died: September 2 nd 1865(age 60) From Dublin Irish Physicist, Astronomer, & Mathematician

Life William Hamilton's scientific career included the study of geometrical optics, classical mechanics, adaptation of dynamic methods in optical systems.

Mathematical Studies Hamilton contributed to the development of optics, dynamics, and algebra. In particular, discovering the algebra of quaternions. Quaternions: Generalization of two-dimensional complex numbers to three dimensions. His work proved significant for the development of quantum mechanics.
