3D Paving Training Start Procedure & UTS Handover Procedure Phil Jackson Training Manager March 2010
Before you Start
Before You Start Check you survey marks are present and accurate Check your UTSs have the correct firmware and pass all calibration tests –Especially if they have travelled Check your TDC2 has the correct SCS900 version, sites and designs –Check your Grade Check Pole Bubble
Paver – UTS Handover Procedure Before you start
SCS – UTS Handover Procedure Can be complicated & difficult Or can be simple It depends on your procedures
Pitfalls If 2 or more UTS have a machine with the same Channel and Network ID, then the radios will interfere and neither will be heard Two UTS are trying to talk to the same machine at the same time
SCS – UTS Handover Rule Assign a Channel to each Machine or Grade Checker Assign a Network ID to each UTS
SCS – UTS Handover Procedure First for one paver Next for 2 pavers
Channel = Machine Assign a Channel to each Machine Paver 1 has Channel 31
Channel = Grade Checker Assign a Channel to each Grade Checker Grade Checker 1 has Channel 1
Different Radio Channels Now the 2 “Rovers on site, the Paver and the Grade Checker have DIFFERENT Radio Channels
SCS – UTS Handover Procedure Assign a Network ID to each UTS UTS 1 has Network ID 1 UTS 2 has Network ID 2 Etc,
Paver – UTS Handover Procedure Now when paving: Leave the Channel set to your Machine’s Channel Change ONLY the Network ID to select the UTS you want to use
Minimise Machine List Only have the required machine in the SCS900 list The UTS cycles through every machine in the list looking for a connection A short list means fast connections
Graphical UTS Handover The next slide shows the method of transitioning down a road with multiple UTS –It is best viewed as a “Slide Show” so that you can see the site build and transition as the paver progresses down the road
Graphical UTS Handover Channel 1 Network ID 3 Channel 31 Network ID 4 Channel 31 Network ID 2 Channel 1 Network ID 1 Channel 1 Network ID 1 Channel 1 Network ID 3 Channel 31 Network ID 4 Channel 31 Network ID 2
Tip Unlike these slides – Do NOT use the default values –Change the Grade Checker Channel to other than 1 –Change the Machine Channel to other than 31 –Change the UTS Network ID to other than 1
Paver – UTS Handover Procedure While Paving
UTS Handover Procedure 1.Set 2D System to Manual 2.Stop 3.Grade Check 4.Write Down the PCS900 Elevation 5.In UTS screen Change Network ID ONLY 6.In UTS screen Start the UTS 7.CHECK the PCS900 Elevation
UTS Height Bust? IF < 5 mm (~2/10 th inch) –carry on 5 – 15 mm –Split the difference and bench >15 mm (5/10 th inch) –Yell at surveyor Find and use your own numbers
Can You Handover On The Fly? Maybe If your not paying for mistakes If you have a really fast car to leave in If nobody has your cell phone number...
Can You Handover On The Fly? Maybe If the design is smooth –No transitions ahead If you have successfully Handed Over before and are using the same procedure Have a fall-back plan –If not 3D after 10(?) m then stop and fix
Maybe?? Use next UTS as temp grade checker to check set-up
