Transition Words Why do we use transition words? Transition words help the reader move from one idea to the next. Think of transition words as bridges; they help the reader get from place to place in the paragraph or paper.

Categories of Transition Words Many categories of transition words exist. This PowerPoint will focus on five:  Similarity  Contrast  Addition  Illustration  Cause and Effect

Similarity Transition Words The following transition words can be used to show similarity between two ideas. additionally also and comparatively consequently correspondingly furthermore identically in addition in the same way moreover He enjoyed reading mystery novels.
